RONNY JAQUES
A contemporary of Richard Avedon and Lillian Bassman, Ronny Jaques covered fashion, travel, performing arts and lifestyle scenes for American magazines—in particular Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country—that, to this day, remain revered in their respective fields. He quickly established himself as an innovator and now occupies a firm place in the pantheon of post-World War II photographers. In Stolen Moments, his work is chronicled for the first time in book form by prominent publishing figure and close friend Pamela Fiori, editor of Town & Country since 1993.
FROM TOWN&COUNTRY, OCTOBER 2008
RONNY JAQUES: 1910 - 2008
"In the August issue we published an excerpt from Stolen Moments, a book of photographs of Ronny Jaques that comes out this month and for which I wrote the text. I also talked about Ronny, a longtime friend, on this very page in the same issue. When we first met, Ronny was seventy-two and still photographing for Gourmet magazine. We remained friends over the years, even though he and his wife lived in Copenhagen, and I was lucky to have worked closely with him on the book. Ronny celebrated his ninety-eighth birthday a few months ago. I wasn't there to watch him blow out the candles, but my most fervent wish was that he would live to see the finished version of Stolen Moments, just so I could witness the look of delight on his cheery face. But that was not to be. He passed away over the summer, while Stolen Moments was being printed. Ronny Jaques lived a full, fascinating and happy life, and those whom he leaves behind - including me - will miss him dearly. -Pamela Fiori, Editor of Town&Country
